Taking our place in Sydney Harbour

The world’s most famous harbour, Sydney Harbour offers a spectacular aquatic playground on the water and a world-renowned waterfront scene off it. It’s known for the striking outline of the Sydney Opera House and the effervescent wining and dining hotspots dotted around the shoreline.

And 6HEAD sits right in its heart in one of the most beautiful locations in the entire harbour. From our floor-to-ceiling windows in The Rocks, you’ll look out over the Sydney Opera House and watch the boats cruise by.

Here’s a little more about the place we call home.

The Sydney Opera House

In 1957, the Government of New South Wales hosted an international design competition for a performing arts centre in Sydney. Danish architect Jørn Utzon won the competition, and the building was completed in 1973.

The sails of the Sydney Opera House are known around the world as a symbol of Sydney and of Australia, but there’s more to this structure than its eye-catching lines.

Today, it’s home to more than 1,500 performances every year, including many by Opera Australia, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, and the Sydney Theatre Company.

It’s one of the most popular tourist attractions in Australia, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Sydney Harbour

Sydney Harbour covers more than 240 kilometres, every inch of it fascinating.

The heart of the harbour surrounding the Sydney Opera House is where the most action happens. This is the area where the annual Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race kicks off, where tourists take all sorts of cruises and fishing trips, and where you’ll find no shortage of things to do on and off the water.

This includes the Chinese Garden of Friendship, the SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium, the Powerhouse Museum, the Darling Harbour Ferris Wheel, and all the shopping and dining you can imagine.

The Rocks

And under the towering arch of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, you’ll find The Rocks. The Rocks is a small, historic section of Sydney Harbour, and was one of the first areas to be settled – even though it was known as something of a slum back in its day.

Today, The Rocks couldn’t be further from its less than savoury origins.

It is now one of the most popular areas to explore in Sydney, with its hidden historic laneways, gorgeous boutique shopping, famous market, and world-class bars and dining. And of course, 6HEAD is snuggled in the scenic waterfront of The Rocks, offering exceptional drinks and meals for anyone spending their day exploring the beautiful Sydney Harbour.
